Clinical Focus

Mindful Eating

Sylvi has undergone clinical training in Mindfulness Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT), which can be helpful in managing emotional eating and overeating.

Clinical Nutrition

Balanced nutrition is not about eating the latest superfood or following a fad diet. It’s not about overhauling your current plan to follow a crash diet that you won’t stick to long-term. It’s not about giving up your favourite foods or treats either. It’s about eating real food. It’s about finding the balance that’s right for you, without adding any guilt or suffering to your life. A healthy nutrition plan needs to be sustainable for the long-term. Sylvi will help you to choose sustainable lifestyle changes that you’ll be comfortable with, to help you reach your health goals.

Mental-Emotional Health

With several years of experience focusing in mental health and wellness, and additional training in mindfulness based clinical skills, Sylvi strives to help individuals become more mindful of how their thoughts and emotions impact overall mental health in order to reduce the impact of stress.

What can you expect from your care?

A detailed assessment

Your first appointment will be between 60-90 minutes long.  You will be asked to fill out forms prior to your appointment in order to provide important information about your health and optimize our time during the appointment.  It is helpful if you can bring copies of your most recent test results with you so we can review these together. Your personal and family health history will be reviewed along with your dietary intake and other health patterns.  A physical examination will be performed, along with any lab tests that may be necessary.  You will be referred to your family physician for imaging studies such as x-ray or ultrasound, if they are indicated.  Some initial treatment recommendations will be made, and a 45 minute follow-up visit will be booked within one to two weeks to review and discuss the overall treatment plan.

An integrative approach

In order to provide you with the best care possible, Dr. Martin practices in collaboration with any other healthcare providers you may be seeing.  You will be referred for any collaborate care that may be beneficial in helping you to achieve your wellness goals.

Individualized treatment and person-centered care

YOU are the focus of your care.  You can expect to be informed of the conventional and natural treatment options that are available to you so that you may make informed choices that support your wellness goals.  All treatment plans are individualized and take into account any potential interactions between medications or conventional treatments that you may also be using.  Your questions will be welcomed and answered in a way that you will understand, and you are invited to book as much time as you need to address your concerns.

Acupuncture helps restore the balance of Qi (“Chi”) – a vital energy that flows through channels known as meridians to nourish the body and mind, while helping to correct imbalances.  This is achieved by inserting hair-thin needles into specific points in the body. Modern science has validated the positive effects of acupuncture, specifically acupuncture’s ability to stimulate local blood and oxygen flow and its ability to release chemicals in the body that can have a positive effect on pain and mood.  Acupuncture has been medically endorsed for use to address pain and help regulate chemical and hormonal release.

hands-on treatment

Physical medicine is a treatment that incorporates hands-on techniques, such as massage and myo-fascial release, to benefit the muscles and soft-tissues.

Hydrotherapy is a treatment that uses water therapeutically to positively influence tissues in the body and to accelerate the healing process.  It can be helpful to decrease inflammation and swelling, promote relaxation, or to increase blood flow to certain areas of the body.  Hydrotherapy can be used in conjunction with topical botanical extracts for added therapeutic effect.
