IN THIS FULL-DAY GROUP PROGRAM, YOU WILL:
o Learn foundations of healthy, balanced nutrition
o Explore your level of hunger, fullness & satisfaction, along with body sensations and emotional factors that impact your eating habits
o Practice using mindful eating techniques to transform your relationship with food
This full-day program was developed by Dr. Sylvi Martin as a fusion of evidence-based nutrition with the mental-emotional aspect of mindful eating where you will learn how to nourish your body, and your senses. You’ll explore and practice using techniques to improve your awareness of body sensations and emotional factors that impact your eating habits, and learn strategies that you can use at home to improve your relationship with food. The ultimate goal of the program is to help you learn to make healthier and more conscious food choices while eating flexibly and mindfully in a sustainable way.
This program blends together Dr. Martin’s education in naturopathic medicine and clinical nutrition, her background in mental health and mindfulness skills, and her training in Mindfulness Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT – a program developed by Dr. Jean Kristeller, PhD). Several clinical trials involving variations of MB-EAT have noted improvement in how people relate to their eating. For example, researchers have found that an increase in mindful eating has been associated with decreased consumption of sweets and improvement in blood sugar levels, and other evidence supports the use of MB-EAT in improving one’s sense of self-control around eating. Typically, when eating mindfully, people learn to become more satisfied with the food that they eat, while reducing overeating.
