Are Naturopathic doctors REAL DOCTORS?

Naturopathic Doctors are one of the regulated health professions in Ontario who are authorized to use the doctor title by the Regulated Health Professions Act.

Anyone practicing as a naturopathic doctor in Ontario must be registered with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario.

Are Naturopathic doctors medical doctors?

While Naturopathic Doctors are primary care providers, they do not replace the care provided by your family medical doctor. Dr. Martin, ND, will work in collaboration with your family doctor. You are encouraged to see your family doctor for any concerns related to any medications that your medical doctor may be prescribing.

Are naturopathic doctors specialists?

Naturopathic Doctors are not specialists. In Canada, the only healthcare providers who are considered specialists are medical doctors who have met specific requirements set out by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or their respective provincial medical regulator (in Ontario, the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario regulates Medical Doctors).

Currently, there is not any recognized speciality program for Naturopathic Doctors in Canada.

How long do Naturopathic doctors go to school?

Naturopathic doctors complete a minimum of 7 years of post-secondary education. Dr. Martin, ND, has completed a 4 year Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Laurentian University in addition to the 4 year naturopathic medicine program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine.

Do You need a referral to see a naturopathic doctor?

What conditions can naturopathic doctors treat?

Naturopathic doctors are trained to diagnose and treat a wide variety of health concerns. Some of the concerns most commonly addressed by naturopathic doctors include digestive concerns, skin concerns, hormonal concerns, and other general health concerns. In the event that Dr. Martin is unable to treat your condition, or if it is outside of her scope of practice, she will refer you to another regulated healthcare provide to ensure you receive the most appropriate care.
